DG ENER presents compelling case for energy efficiency policies

2016. 10. 17.

Paul Hodson, the Head of the European Commission's energy efficiency unit, presented findings from the EED impact assessment at the EUFORES Inter-parliamentary meeting in Copenhagen and at the Renovate Europe Day in Brussels.

Data from the impact assessment decomposes the various factors which have influenced energy consumption in the EU. It shows that the decoupling of energy use and economic growth during the past decade can be largely attributed to EU energy efficiency policies, rather than to the economic crisis. Paul Hodson is confident that the EU still has room for manoeuvre to trigger energy efficiency improvements: the economic slow-down could also mean that some energy efficiency improvements have been held back.
