In an unprecedented collaboration, the Green Budapest Consultancy Office opened on Tuesday in the City Hall building. The centre, inaugurated by the Mayor, hosts the HungAIRy project and the RenoPont Energy Home Renovation Centre, where interested parties can receive a complex service including professional advice on air quality protection and energy efficiency upgrades for homes.

With the Green Budapest Consulting Office, we are launching a brand new residential advisory centre that can significantly help to modernise the energy efficiency of homes in the capital and improve air quality, our most serious environmental problem. We consider awareness-raising and advisory services essential, as the sustainability transition of Budapest and Hungary can only be achieved in cooperation with the public and the civil sector” – said Mayor Gergely Karácsony at the opening event.
The RenoPont initiative was launched by Energiaklub, the Hungarian Energy Efficiency Institute, IMRO-DDKK Environmental Nonprofit Ltd., AACM Central Europe Ltd. and the Hungarian Family House Owners Association with the aim of making energy renovations predictable and simple by providing comprehensive advice. By introducing a “one-stop-shop” solution, they aim to provide owners with all technical, legal and financial information in one place, from planning to construction and use. The project is funded by the European Union Horizon 2020.
“Residential energy consumption accounts for about one third of Hungary’s final energy consumption, which could be halved through comprehensive building energy renovation. This would make a huge step forward in climate protection, while making homes more comfortable, more beautiful, warmer in winter, cooler in summer, healthier and increasing their market value,” said Martina Méhes, Executive Director and Professional Director of the Energiaklub Policy Institute and Methodology Centre.
The event was told that the new location is not the last of its kind: a RenoPont one-stop-shop will soon open in the capital’s 8th district.
Services
The new office will also welcome eco-managers from the Life IP HungAIRy project, which was launched in 2019 to reduce air pollution and raise public awareness. They will provide green advice on composting, proper wood burning and environmentally friendly transport methods, as well as information on national and EU tenders to improve air quality. The LIFE IP HungAIRy project is funded by the LIFE programme of the European Union.
