Local building renovation advocacy organizations jointly support an ambitious implementation of the EPBD in the Central and Eastern European region. The project will identify areas of good practice and inspirational examples of building renovations and its enabling framework, and share them among V4 countries, to provide relevant input for policy makers and other stakeholders.
The following four organizations are involved in the project.
- The Hungarian Energy Efficiency Institute (MEHI), (project coordinator) is an independent, non-profit professional and advocacy organization operating since 2011, with a focus on energy efficiency and building policy. MEHI closely cooperates with market actors, its corporate partners are the leading energy efficiency companies in Hungary. MEHI provides decision-makers with evidence-based policy recommendations, it also acts to promote energy efficiency among professional audiences and the wider public.
- Buildings for the Future (B4F) was established in 2013 as an alliance of the leading business associations and NGOs to advocate legislative changes promoting energy efficiency in buildings in Slovakia. B4F now has 8 member associations, representing more than 900 entities active in the construction industry. It is actively shaping public policies to promote high-quality construction and renovation.
- Chance for Buildings (CH4B) was founded in 2010 as an alliance of major industry associations supporting energy-efficient, climate-change-adapted buildings in the Czech Republic. CH4B advocates for a proper implementation of relevant EU strategies and directives in Czechia such as the previous versions of EPBD. It currently brings together 3 associations, representing 250 companies.
- Polish Green Building Council (PLGBC) was founded in 2008 and ever since it has implemented sustainable practices in the Polish buildings and construction sector. PLGBC has 227 institutional members from the whole Polish construction value chain and is the most recognized NGO in the sustainable built environment in Poland. PLGBC implements various international and national projects that support the transition towards climate neutrality (including energy efficiency, deep retrofit, circularity, decarbonization).
The project is co-financed by the governments of Czechia, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia through Visegrad Grants from the International Visegrad Fund (https://www.visegradfund.org/). The mission of the fund is to advance ideas for sustainable regional cooperation in Central Europe.
