Hungary urgently needs a comprehensive database that makes it possible to track the number, type, depth and impact of home renovations at the municipal level.
The Building Renovation Monitoring System (Épületfelújítási Monitoring Rendszer, ÉMOR), envisaged in Hungary’s Long-Term Renovation Strategy, has yet to be established. Data on the energy performance and renovation of buildings remain fragmented: neither the frequency of data collection nor the quality of the available data is consistent. As a result, existing data cannot adequately support long-term policymaking or the monitoring of renovation activity.
A well-functioning, transparent and harmonised database would be essential for informing Hungary’s National Building Renovation Plan (NBRP), better targeting renovation programmes, and reliably measuring the annual renovation rate.
This is one of the key findings of our comprehensive Baseline Assessment, prepared by MEHI as part of the JustReno project.
